Liquid-Proof Sensor
In many applications, accurate measurement of the OTR tire temperatures and pressures is critical. In these situations, an Internal Sensor is the only option. Where liquids (such as TireLife or RimExcel) are in use, you will need to ensure the Sensor is liquid-proof.
The TMS50 Sensor is an updated version of the well-known golf ball Sensor. Of course the golf ball sensor is in use by a number of major OTR tire companies and numerous other companies involved in the OTR tire world.
These sensors are fully liquid proof but still accurately measure the pressure and temperature despite the presence of liquid. Tires have liquid inside for a number of reasons, such as anti-corrosion, heat dispersion or just ballast. It also enters the tire when the air for inflation is not totally dry. Consequently the condensation can damage standard TPMS sensors.
The measurement of tire temperature is critical in many applications where tires are driven to the limits of their operating specification. This is common in industries such as Mining, Quarrying and Earthmoving.
TMS50 Liquid-Proof Sensor
As well as the normal tire data, each Sensor also transmits an estimate of the battery status. So as to aid identification, each Sensor has a unique four-digit identity code (ID) as part of the transmission. Additionally each sensor has the Sensor ID engraved on its body.
Each Sensor periodically and under certain conditions broadcasts its ID and measurements as a radio transmission. The Hub then picks up these transmissions.
In order to assure accuracy, we calibrate all sensors across multiple points of the operating range as part of the production and test process. Accuracy is typically within 2psi across this range during our in-house test. Calibration certificates can be provided on request.
All equipment design and manufacture is in-house at our facilities in the UK.
Internal Sensor mounting
The Sensor can be mounted on the side wall of the tire (patch mounting) or use Magnetic Mounts on the rim.
Patch mounting
Affixing the Sensor to the side wall is a simple process using our proprietary TMS® rubber toggle system. It glues onto the side wall of the tire, attaching to an industry-standard tire patch. Another key point is that the patches themselves are flexible and lightweight and make a very secure mounting. As a result this mounting can handle the natural flexing of the tire.

Magnetic Mounting
Alternatively, you can mount the Sensor on flexible magnetic mounts on the tire rim. In addition the extremely powerful neodymium magnets, combined with rubber toggles, snap solidly to the surface of the steel rim inside the inflation chamber of the OTR tire. Of course the integral rubber toggles handle any vehicle vibration. The Sensor can be fitted after installing the first bead during tire fitting using a special Mounting Tool available from TMS.
